According to our latest market study on “Radon Detector Market Forecast to 2027 – COVID-19 Impact and Global Analysis – by Type (Long-Term and Short-Term) and Application (Residential, Commercial, and Others),” the market was valued at US$ 514.88 million in 2019 and is projected to reach US$ 877.68 million by 2027; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.2% from 2020 to 2027.

North America dominated the global radon detectors market in 2019 with a decent share, and it would continue to dominate the market during the forecast period by accounting decent share by 2027. Europe is the second-largest contributor to the global market, followed by APAC. In North America, the US, Canada, and Mexico are the major economies that invest in integration of advanced technology in several industries. This, in turn, is leading to a highly competitive market in the region. The residential radon exposure in the region varies by new environmental design, occupant behavior, and season. In North America, residential buildings are radon-tested with various approaches coupled to geographic, seasonal, and behavioral data with quality controls. The modern North American Prairie residential environment highlights worsening radon exposure. Radon comes from decomposing uranium in rocks. In the US, it is measured in picocuries per liter (pCi/L), and in Canada, it is measured in Becquerels per square meter (Bq/m3), and the average outdoor level is 5–15 Bq/m3 or 0.135–0.405 pCi/L.

For millers, transporters, and uranium miners, who have certain health problems because of radon exposure, the US government has established the Radiation Exposure Compensation Program. In this program, the government provides a lump sum payment to people suffering from lung cancer and selected noncancerous lung diseases, if specific criteria are met. The Surgeon General, the US EPA, the American Lung Association, the American Medical Association, and the National Safety Council recommend testing homes for radon. Thus, high significance of testing radon gas is surging the deployment of radon detectors in the region across all residential and commercial buildings.

In 2019, Germany, France, the UK, Russia, and Italy are among the major countries in Europe. There is a rapid rise in residential constructions in the region due to demographic trends, low mortgage rates, and increased household income. New construction projects as well as renovation and maintenance of existing structures have also increased. Moreover, nonresidential construction projects are rising due to increase in consumer demand and comparatively high corporate profits. Countries, such as Germany and the UK, are experiencing high growth in their construction sector. The governments of Italy and Spain are taking initiatives to support the residential and commercial industry through investments, subsidies, and grants for the renovation and construction of public and private infrastructural projects. Such a broad focus on residential and commercial projects is likely to increase the demand for radon detectors in Europe. A recent study on indoor radon and lung cancer in Europe provided robust evidence that radon is causing a huge number of lung cancer cases in the general population.

Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Radon Detector Market

Due to COVID-19 outbreak, the global radon detectors market witnessed a decline in company sales and marketing activities, cancellation of product launches, temporary shutdown of businesses, and disruptions in supply chain and manufacturing activities in the past year. All these factors have hindered the revenue and growth of the players operating in the global radon detectors market. However, the ongoing restructuring efforts taken by companies to tackle the supply chain issues and increase coordination with sales partners may help in reducing the negative impact to some extent.
