According to The Insight Partners' research, the Asia Pacific GNSS chip market was valued at US$ 1,815.11 million in 2024 and is expected to reach US$ 3,524.44 million by 2031, registering a CAGR of 9.9% from 2024 to 2031. Increasing adoption of technological advancements such as big data and surging need for accuracy in real-time data are among the critical factors attributed to the Asia Pacific GNSS chip market expansion.

Big data analytics can be used to analyze vast amounts of GNSS data, leading to a better understanding of user behavior, signal propagation, and error correction. These analytics can enhance the development of more accurate, efficient, and reliable GNSS chip. Also, big data can be used to personalize location-based services, making them relevant and valuable to users, subsequently boosting the demand for GNSS chip in applications such as navigation, asset tracking, and geospatial mapping. In November 2022, a project named real-time integrity for GNSS using opportunistic receivers (RIGOUR) started. Objective of RIGOUR (Real-time Integrity for GNSS using Opportunistic Receivers) was the Demonstration of the feasibility and a quantification of the benefits (with respect to existing Integrity systems) of "Real-time big data processing for GNSS Integrity", using large-scale simulations.

Taking this into account, the proposed activity aims to assess new GNSS integrity concepts, namely:

  • Satellite integrity: Massive use of general GNSS user terminals as main source of input data to generate satellite integrity information from a GNSS Integrity Processor, with no or a reduced number of System reference stations.
  • Local integrity: Provision of additional information for a given small area (e.g. a street) with high density of GNSS users feeding data in the System so that it is possible to increase, if needed, the protection levels to cover the impact of the GNSS local environment (multipath, interference) without jeopardising the availability in other regions.

Augmented reality (AR) applications rely heavily on accurate and real-time location data, which GNSS chip provide. As AR adoption grows across sectors such as gaming, retail, and manufacturing, the demand for GNSS chip is likely to surge. In addition, AR is transforming GNSS surveying stakeouts through real-time visualization, improved accuracy, and increased efficiency. Also, through the intuitive and immersive experience that augmented reality offers, surveyors can better understand the context and layout of the surveying site. During surveillance, this enhanced spatial awareness facilitates more informed decision-making. Thus, the combined influence of big data and augmented reality is likely to propel the GNSS chip market growth in the coming years.

On the contrary, concerns related to jamming and spoofing attacks hamper the growth of Asia Pacific GNSS chip market.
