Middle Eastern and African regions have witnessed a rapid surge in the number pay-tv subscribers in recent years. The demand in Middle Eastern region showed more than 30 percent of growth also the SVOD (subscription-based services) such as Netflix and Hulu have witnessed 10 times faster growth in these regions. As Middle East and Africa project low penetration of digital TV and internet in the market currently, the situations are expected to flip in the coming years. Conditional Access Systems are systems that deny any unauthorized access to a secured digital content. Thus, they help in preventing piracy as well as generate revenue streams for the service providers. The first and foremost member of the value chain is the CAS device manufacturer. Devices that scramble the transmitted signal and then descramble it as per the subscription of the consumer come under the umbrella of CAS devices. The devices generally include the set-top boxes used for viewing a Television, personal devices on which digital contents can be viewed via OTT applications. A slot for inserting Smart Card is created in the set top box where all the subscriber information is stored. The smart card allows or denies the access to any user to a particular digital content. In some devices there is no such slot and instead the CAS software is embedded in the device itself.
