The North America blood collection devices market is expected to reach US$ 6,558.01 million by 2027 from US$ 4,094.40 million in 2019; it is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 6.2% from 2020 to 2027.

Growing number of accidents and trauma cases, rising incidence of infectious diseases, and developing liquid biopsy are the key factors driving the growth of North America blood collection devices market. However, risks associated with the blood collection devices is the major factor hindering the market growth in North America.

Blood collection devices help in safe withdrawal of blood. Blood is collected from donor to perform various diagnostic tests. Needles & syringes, lancets, and other devices are used for arterial and venous blood collection. Arterial blood collection has various advantages such as arterial blood gas sampling, and intraoperative blood salvage.

The incidence rate of cancer remains highest in developed regions. Lung cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and prostate cancer account for the majority of cancer incidences among the population. Lung cancer is the leading cause of mortality among all cancers. For instance, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved a liquid biopsy – a test that uses a blood sample, to identify patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), who would be eligible for treatment with erlotinib (Tarceva). For instance, in 2016, Inivata, a global clinical cancer genomics company employing a revolutionary approach to circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) analysis to improve personalized healthcare in oncology, announced the launch of its US clinical validation study (INI-001) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Liquid biopsy is done on a sample of blood to identify cancer cells from the tumor. This helps in detecting cancer at an early stage. To understand the molecular level changes, the doctors usually take multiple samples over a period of time. The ease with which liquid biopsies can be obtained makes them useful in real-time monitoring of disease progression because, in many cases, tumors evolve and may need different treatments based on the genetic changes that occur within the tumor. The rising liquid biopsy test for screening, surveillance, and disease monitoring is expected to drive the blood collection device market growth.

In the United States, due to an increasing number of infected patients, healthcare professionals and leading organizations are distracting the flow of healthcare resources from research & development to primary care, which is slowing down the process of innovation. The surveys conducted in the North American states are likely to propel the demand for blood collection devices.

Recently, as the number of COVID-19 affected patients is dramatically increasing in the US, doctors at Mount Sinai Hospital noticed some strange behavior with patients’ blood. Signs of blood thickening and clotting were observed in different organs of the patients. Moreover, the nephrologists also noticed kidney dialysis catheters being plugged with clogs.
