Given the current situation for the manufacturing of food and beverages, the choice for the correct pump selection is crucial to support operational efficiency and minimize waste and downtime. A variety of product configurations of positive displacement pumps are developed to cater to the needs of food processors today. Manufacturers are developing pumps that can meet a wide range of performance capacities, pressures, and viscosities. To cater to the same, in April 2022, NETZSCH Pumpen & Systeme GmbH, the global pump manufacturer, announced that it would be showing its latest pump models exclusively developed for the food industry at Anuga FoodTec. The company is working on models such as PERIPRO peristaltic pump, the NOTOS screw pump, the TORNADO rotary lobe pump, and the NEMO progressing hollow space pump. In response to the shift in focus by the FDA (Food and Drugs Administration), manufacturers of pumps are continuously working to improve the cleanable aspects and hygiene issues of consumer products when using these pumps, while ensuring easy maintenance.

Positive displacement pumps offer several benefits in food processing facilities. They are used in food production for hygienic performance and pulse-free pumping. The usage of anticavitation ports and large rotor fluid cavities make them an ideal choice for a wide range of applications, including fluids containing large particles and/or highly viscous fluids. Some configurations of pumps are also designed with particularly tight internal tolerances, which offer low slip performance in niche applications, thereby increasing the pump efficiency and improving the overall performance and product longevity.

Positive displacement pumps incorporate an expanding cavity at the suction aspect of the pump and a reducing cavity at the discharge aspect. The cavity at the suction aspect enables the liquid to flow into the pump because of expansion, and it is pressured out of the release aspect because the cavity collapses. In March 2022, HRS Heat Exchangers evolved the BP Series of hygienic reciprocating, advantageous-displacement pumps appropriate for various difficult-to-manage food products, consisting of complete peppers, strawberries, and infant carrots sauces, dips, fruit purées, and plenty of others. The HRS BP Series piston pump is operated both hydraulically or pneumatically and carries a separator equipped between the piston and the hydraulic chamber to make sure there is no touch between the product chamber and the hydraulic oil (if equipped).

Positive displacement pumps are essential in the oil & gas sector and are regularly deployed in tri-phase or multi-segment pumping applications. The growing exploration and manufacturing activities within the oil & gas sector and the increasing demand for enhancing oil restoration procedures are among the primary factors driving the demand for positive displacement pumps. This is expected to continue to boost market growth during the forecast period.

For instance, the US Energy Information Administration's (EIA) February 2022 Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO) forecasted that US crude oil production would grow to 12 million b/d in 2022, up from 760,000 b/d in 2021. It is also estimated that crude oil manufacturing within the US will rise via way of means of 630,000 b/d in 2023 to a mean of 12.6 million b/d.

Further, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is an important development that positively impacts the suppliers and end users, thereby saving operational expenditure (OPEX) costs. The adoption of pumps by several end users will create lucrative opportunities for the proliferation of the market.

Schlumberger Ltd; HERMETIC-Pumpen; Pentair; Baker Hughes; Flowserve; Sulzer; IDEX Corporation; Ebara Corporation; Weir Group; and Fristam Pumps are among the key positive displacement pumps market players profiled during the study. Several other major companies were studied and analyzed during this research study to get a holistic view of the positive displacement pumps market and its ecosystem.
