Brazil and Argentina are major economies in SAM. Increasing number of organ transplantation surgeries is the major factor driving the growth of the SAM organ preservation solutions market. Organ transplantation is a surgical procedure used when a patient's organ no longer functions properly. Organ transplantation is most for heart, liver, and kidney. However, the rising prevalence of chronic diseases is necessitating organ transplantation for organs such as the lung, pancreas, cornea, and vascular tissues. Organ transplantation is regarded as one of the most significant advances in modern medicine. Rise in chronic diseases that cause damage to the functions of the heart, lung, liver, kidney, and other organs is leading to an increase in the number of organ transplants. Moreover, excessive alcohol consumption leads to liver cirrhosis and ultimately needs liver transplant and a poor diet contribute to the development of renal and hepatic illnesses, which can lead to organ failure. This is yet another factor contributing to the growth of the organ transplantation and therefore preservation solutions market. Transplantation surgeries are becoming more common. The public-private partnership in collaboration with transplant coordinators has made a significant contribution to the improvement of organ transplantation. Both developing and developed countries have seen an increase in the number of organ transplant surgeries.

The COVID-19 pandemic has stringently affected medical services in SAM. Also, countries in this region are famous for medical tourism. Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Colombia are affected by the second wave of the COVID-19 infection. Amongst these, Brazil has registered the majority of the deaths. In the most affected countries, COVID-19 had an immediate impact on donation and transplantation efforts. In Brazil, the donor rate decreased by 13% in 2020 compared to 2019. This fall in donation rates was caused by a decrease in possible donor notification as well as an increase in the number of transplant contraindications. In Brazil, in 2020, there were decline in the transplantation rates for liver (10%), pancreas (13%), heart (17%), kidney (25%) and lung transplants (39%). There was greater decrease in the number of kidney transplants with a living donor (64%) than the reduction in the number of liver transplants (13%). As the outbreak hit different Brazilian states at different time points and affected different geographic locations, there was a difference in the timing of decrease in the organ transplantation rates. kidney transplantation rate decreased by 8% in the central-western region and by 80% in the northern region, which has been worst affected by the pandemic. Thus, organ transplantation has also been dramatically affected by COVID-19, with regard both to transplantation activities and the severity of cases (with elevated morbidity and mortality) and poor response to vaccination among transplant patients.

With the new features and technologies, vendors can attract new customers and expand their footprints in emerging markets. This factor is likely to drive the SAM organ preservation solutions market. The SAM organ preservation solutions market is expected to grow at a good CAGR during the forecast period.
